During the winter (01/11-31/03), the hotel allocates a part of its rooms to accommodate winter guests. Mostly available are the rooms with a fireplace, which creates a cozy pleasurable ambience.
Apart from the hotel, other facilities that operate in the winter include the tavern, the cafenion and the museum. Workshops and shops are open only on dates with scheduled daytime tours.
The winter tavern operates four days a week offering live Cretan music performed by the famous lyrist from Anogia, Mr. Nikiforos Aerakis.
The Museum serves school excursions offering a wide range of educational activities. It is closed at Christmas.
The cafenion operates from the morning until the afternoon and serves as a breakfast room of the hotel.
However, it also remains open in the evening on certain days.
During the winter season, one can experience a very different aspect of Arolithos, since it becomes a place of isolation (while someone is very close to Heraklion at the same time), relaxation and enjoyment of traditional simplicity.
The smell of wood burning in fireplaces and on grates, that of roast lamb, the scents of the nature (soil, wood and stone) stimulate the senses.
Rainy days, sunny halcyon days or even snowy nights create a magical atmosphere that takes one back to past times.
